Latest Research into cures for Sciatica Pain

Research in Islamabad, Pakistan has shown that the cause of sciatic pain may in fact be piriformis syndrome.  This is a condition in which the piriformis muscle in the buttocks can compress or irritate the sciatic nerve.

Up until now, for chronic problems doctors have been recommending spinal fusion surgery for the medical problems associated with sciatica.

Although in it's fairly early stages, this has the possibility to help those patients for whom the root cause is piriformis syndrome, which can be detected using MR neurography, a new technique which shows images of the nerves.

This common form of back pain, commonly treated through surgery due to disc damage, may now have a new form of treatment and that doctors may wish to consider whether the sciatic pain may be caused by entrapment by the piriformis muscle.

This research was issued in the February issue of the Journal of Neurosurgery (Spine).

Why not try an Osteopath ? - an alternative way to promote natural healing

More and more people are looking for natural ways to help their back - in particular for such chronic problems as spinal stenosis, herniated disc, sciatica and other problems that can cause low back pain.

One proven alternative way to ease the pain is to consider visiting an osteopath.Osteopathy offers a natural way for healing and dealing with back pain

Osteopathic medicine is based on the premise that the body has the capacity to heal itself and will aim to cure the injury or original problem.  This will then reduce or " cure " the effects that the injury has had on the rest of the body.

The osteopath will use hands on treatment to manipulate certain parts of the body to improve back pain, stretching and manipulating the spine to help deal with the root cause of the problem.

On occasions this will help ease the pain experienced almost immediately, sometimes a course of treatment may be recommended where the problem is severe or has accumulated over a long period of time.

You may also be asked a number of questions about your lifestyle, as the aim is to find out what is causing your back pain and address the root cause of it.

Although osteopathy started out as one branch of alternative medicine, a significant number of qualified doctors are now using this as part of their way of helping patients.  Not only is it a more natural way of offering healing, but it reduces or can eliminate the need for prescribed or over the counter medicines too.

If you're still undecided about this method, you might like to read about my own surprisingly positive experiences, the article is called  How I did the Twist on the Dance Floor after months of Sciatica !

One of the best ways to find your own practitioner is to ask friends who they've used and would recommend - once you start asking you'll be surprised that most people will know of or use an osteopath to help promote the health of their back!
